Fountain Tire is seeking a knowledgeable, safety oriented, Safety Specialist to be a key player supporting our Mine Services division!

Reporting to the Manager of Safety, the focus of this role is to enhance and support the ongoing development of the Safety Excellence program for all Fountain Tire business units.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Training, Coaching, & Support

  • Provide coaching to all Mine Site Area Managers and designated Fountain Tire locations through internal audits. Coaching includes audit results and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Mine Service and Store Operations in the development of new safety procedures and corrective actions from internal and external audits.
  • Actively participate in the delivery of Safety training and program review at various locations and functions.

Safety Program Development & Compliance

  • Research and develop leading edge industry related Safety programs.
  • Ensure the right resources to maintain high levels of safety for people, products, services and projects are researched, developed, communicated, accessible and accepted.
  • Lead the Safety recognition programs (COR, SECOR, MECOR) in all capacities for designated provinces, establish and maintain relationships with certifying partners, auditors, and provincial boards.

Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Support Mine Services and all designated Fountain Tire locations to properly process WCB claims from incident to conclusion, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up occurs
  • Partner with the Learning & Development Team to develop Safety program learning content and delivery that is accessible and measurable, and that is kept current with legislative requirements
  • Investigate reported Safety related incidents, liaise with respective provincial OH&S and WCB representatives, and conclude all reports.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • The successful candidate will possess a Post-Secondary Certificate or Diploma in a relevant discipline, and a minimum of 2 years experience in a hands-on, frontline Mining Safety environment. A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Successful completion of several and/or all Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) courses. Certified Auditor status is a considerable asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry specific safety programs
  • Familiarity with procedures for site safety, regulations, emergency procedures and WCB requirements.
  • A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach that will enable dealing with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity.
  • Working knowledge of Mine Site operations and proven experience in the effective coordination of projects from inception through implementation including maintenance of appropriate documentation.
  • Ability to travel to remote Mine Sites and Fountain Tire locations: undertaking maintenance audits and site reviews throughout the year (50%).
  • Must be able to pass pre-access and post-incident drug testing in compliance with site regulations
  • Must be able to work in varied conditions: Outside, extreme cold, wind, extreme humidity and with dust & fumes while demonstrating safe work practices.
